God Is For Me

“If God Is For Me, Who Could Be Against?

A man joyfully dancing with energetic movements, smiling broadly as he spins and grooves to the music. Can be summarized with an ayyyyyyye.

This man’s energy is a whole vibe! I can’t help but “aye, aye, aye, aye” and vibe right along with him. The energy in this gif is exactly how I feel when I ask, “If God is for me, who can be against me?” Instant confidence boost—you can’t tell me nothing! Because I know the answer is nobody and nothing, I’m walking and talking different. Disappointment hits, and I’m like, “That’s fine.” Hard stuff comes up, and I just give a Kanye shrug, saying, “God got it.” If I’m being honest, I’m becoming downright smug in faith. And the Lord hasn’t convicted me about my borderline cocky attitude yet, so I’m just gonna keep vibin’. Honestly, when it comes to the confidence we have in God, I’d much rather be on this side of faith than the side of doubt. And if I have my way, by the end of this post, you’ll be closer to this side too.

ELEPHANT #1 IN THE ROOM

Alright, let’s just get this out of the way. This is the part where you’re probably thinking, “Okay, but is He really for me?” And I’m over here rolling my eyes, not in a judgmental way, but more like, “You’re so cute for asking” because the answer is a definite, YES. If you don’t believe me, just crack open your Bible. Like, really dive into it—let go of any old assumptions, judgments, or expectations, and you’ll find the answer right there. Honestly, if you do that, you won’t need to keep reading this post. My job here is done! But for those of you who are a little skeptical or just need a reminder, let me share a few examples of just how much God is truly on our side.

5 BIBLE VERSES TO START YOU OFF

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. Isaiah 41:10 NLT [He is for you.]

But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken! Isaiah 54:17 NLT [He is for you.]

I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand. John 10:28 NLT [He is for you.]

God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. 1 John 4:9-10 NLT [He is for you.]

I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow–not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. Romans 8:38 NLT [He is for you.]

I’m only giving you five examples so you don’t get sick of me, and just so you know, it was very hard to choose. The truth is, there are so many examples that show just how much God is for us. I encourage you to check it out for yourself. If you’re not sure where to start, you could do like I did and begin with Proverbs—it’s packed with godly wisdom to help you navigate life. When I first started reading the Bible, I wasn’t ready to dive straight into the Gospels, but if you’re feeling braver than I was, you could start with Matthew. It’s the first gospel in the New Testament and gives you a full account of Jesus’ story. You’ll see just how much He’s for us in that book.

When you read the Bible, like I mentioned earlier, with an open mind—no assumptions, judgments, or expectations—you’ll see how faithful God is. He’s more faithful than we could ever imagine. He will NEVER leave us or turn His back on us. He patiently waits for us to turn to Him, and no matter where we’re at in life, He’s always ready to welcome us back with open arms. It doesn’t matter what we’ve done, how messy and dirty we think we are, or how far we feel we’ve strayed. If you need confirmation on this, crack it open.

GOD REALLY IS FOR YOU, AND HE WONT FORCE YOU

Catch this important quality about our God.

The beautiful thing about God is that He’s not a tyrant, and He doesn’t want robotic, programmed hearts. He gives us the gift of free will—the ability to choose Him. This is such a blessing because no one wants to be in a relationship where they’re forced to be there, or to have people in their lives who don’t genuinely want to be there. Just like how we want the people around us to choose to be with us because they truly want to, not because they’re forced or coerced into it, God feels the same way. Sure, the “love” and affection we might get would come “easier,” but it would also be fake and absolutely meaningless.

I’m of the opinion that it deeply grieves God when we don’t choose Him, because He knows that just like oil and gas keep a car engine running smoothly, our minds, bodies, and lives work best when we’re connected to Him. And someone who is for you, wants the best for you. But someone who is for you, will not force themselves on you.

So He is always for us, and the real question we should be asking is, “Am I for Him?” Keep this in mind as we continue.

ELEPHANT #2 IN THE ROOM

Okay, the other thing you might be thinking, “Isn’t there someone who’s always against us?” Glad you brought it up. Let’s talk about him. Our enemy—the accuser, the liar, and the biggest hater we’ll ever know. He’s the type to take the first question you asked and wreak havoc. He is definitely against us, but the good news is that he has already been defeated. Check out Revelations 20:10.

A skeleton in a fiery, hellish environment, squirming and writhing as if in discomfort or pain, surrounded by intense heat and flames. The fiery backdrop adds to the chaotic and tormented vibe of the scene

He’s just trying to take as many people as he can with him to where he’s headed. Thankfully we’re fighting from a “W” and not for it. But in relation to our topic If God Is For Me, Who Could Be Against, let me give you an idea of what his swings might look like. He knows that God will never separate himself and his love from us, but he also knows that we have the choice to walk away from Him. So he’ll come at us with crafty lies and distortions that are meant to get us to put our trust and faith in ourselves and our abilities, apart from God. He wants us to get us to make our own decisions about what’s right and wrong, good and bad, outside of God’s guidance, slowly pulling us further and further away from Him.

Remember, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak and the enemy eats that up. He’ll rile up all kinds of temptations and distractions to get us away from the real joy and peace that comes with relationship with God. His goal is to get you to take off your crown and get in the mud. And let’s be real—we’ve all had moments where we’ve let our crowns slip and we found ourselves dipping toes into that mud. In those moments—he’ll whisper, “Where’s God now?” and “If He loved you, you wouldn’t be in this mess, would you?” This crafty lecher is sick and twisted!

If you remember just one thing from this post, let it be these next few sentences. The disobedience of choosing disconnection from God to do our own thing brings chaos and calamity that we don’t have to live in, but often settle for. In the moment it may feel good to do what we want on our own terms, but it makes our lives unequivocally more difficult. You know the saying IYKYK; well, we don’t be knowing! The enemy deceives us into thinking that we know whats better for us, more than the one who created us. Then, when the consequences hit, he attempts to plant the thought that God has abandoned us, that He was never really for us, and/or that we’re too messed up for Him to accept now. Subterfuge!

It’s never God who leaves us; it’s always us who steps away. Like I said earlier, God isn’t the type to force Himself on us—He wants us to choose Him. If we choose to give ourselves over to the idols in our lives, and abandon Him; He’ll let us. Flipping the script and making God out to be something He’s not is the enemy’s greatest deception because, often, we don’t know any better. Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are being destroyed because they don’t know me,” and that’s the truth. But here’s the good news: If we take the time to really get to know God, if we study Him and build a relationship with Him, we’ll realize that God is for us, and with Him, nothing can stand against us. That’s not to say the weapons won’t form, but they will not prosper.

IF GOD IS FOR US, WHO COULD BE AGAINST?

Anything that God is a part of and stands behind will always move forward. God will tell us what to do and supply us with the strength to do it. If we’re with Him and He’s with us, and our greatest enemy is already defeated, then who could possibly be against us? What would you attempt if you knew God was with you every step of the way? How would you walk, talk, and move through life if you knew God had already paved the way for you and was simply waiting for you to take that first step?

Are you feeling a little closer to how I’m feeling now?
